How can art transform our understanding of science?

Rebecca Kamen is an artist and sculptor whose work answers this question by blending artistic creativity with scientific exploration.

Originally aspiring to be a scientist, Kamen found her true calling in art, where she reimagines scientific discoveries. Her unique practice involves collaborating with scientists globally, bringing an aesthetic perspective to their work.

Kamen has researched on collaborative projects at the Center for Astrophysics at Harvard University, the Kavli Institute at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rochester Institute of Technology, and at the National Institutes of Health. She currently serves as artist in residence in The Computational Neuroscience Initiative and the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania.

Kamen has exhibited her work internationally and received numerous awards and fellowships. Her art explores themes of neuroscience, physics, and cosmology, often inspired by scientific theories and discoveries.

In this short video, Kamen discusses her artistic process and how she bridges the gap between art and science, and the impact of her work on scientists and other audiences.
